I am a design, customer service, and management professional who is pursuing a second career in GIS. After earning a BS in Graphic Design from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, I worked for 20 years for a theater production company as a costumer and shop manager. I have since decided to try something completely new by pursuing GIS, which I was happy to discover has overlap with my graphic design and technical skills. I will be completing an AAS degree in GIS in December 2024. My career path so far has not been typical but with on-the-job training I was able to advance, in 15 years, from the entry-level position up to director level. I am certain I can learn a new skill set that builds on top of what I have already achieved to succeed in a new field.
